What Pairs Well With the Femcap?
What Other Contraceptive Can You Use With the FemCap?
If you’ve decided that the FemCap is right for you, you might be wondering if it’s enough? Maybe you’re still concerned about pregnancy prevention? Or you’re wondering if you should stop your hormonal birth control completely to totally rely on the Femcap?
I’ve got great news for you. . . the world is your oyster! So let’s talk about it.
Condoms (male and female)
You can absolutely use condoms WITH the Femcap. You can use both male and female condoms, and you can utilize the same lubricant with both methods. Femcap calls for water-based lubricants, which are also safe to use with latex and non-latex condoms. (Just stay away from oil based, which could degrade a condom and make it less effective).
Lorals
Maybe you’ve never heard of Lorals, but they are another female barrier method that are wearable on the outside like a pair of underwear (not worn inside like a female condom). You can safely use these WITH the Femcap.
Hormonal Birth Control Pills, Patches, or Rings
You can use the Femcap WITH these methods too! But why would you? Some people want to stay on their hormonal birth control to manage: acne, painful periods, PMS/PMDD, etc. But they may want another method that is within their control to prevent pregnancy. And any method when used with another method is more effective.
Hormonal and Non-Hormonal IUDs
You can use the Femcap while you have an IUD too! The most important thing to remember is to safely and gently removed the Femcap device to make sure you are not grasping onto your IUD strings as well, just like if you were using a menstrual cup or disc.
Natural Family Planning
The Femcap can be used while you are still getting the hang of natural family planning, tracking your cycles, and determining when you are ovulatory. You could also choose to use the Femcap when you are in your fertile window, but still want to be sexually active.
The Femcap can be used completely on its own without another form of birth control. But we know that the more methods that we utilize, the more likely we are to prevent pregnancy. And some things like friends, champagne and OJ, or multiple birth control methods, are just better when they’re together.
